The Mandola, often used in Celtic traditional music, is to the mandolin what the viola is to the violin. The four double courses of strings are usually tuned in fifths to CGDA, a fifth lower than a mandolin, but many other tunings may be used. Our Mandola features authentic Celtic tone and low, comfortable playing action. The cast brass tailpiece is stronger and thicker than sheet metal tailpieces, providing more sustain. This traditionally shaped and finished mandola will complement the sound of any acoustic ensemble.

Popular in jazz and folk music, the mandola is available in both the A style and F style with a flat top or carved top design. Brands including Eastman, Northfield, Ozark & Gold Tone are available for the beginner to the best handmade instruments.

The mandola, sometimes known as the tenor mandolin or the tenor mandola, is a slightly longer scaled instrument and an ancestor to the mandolin. It is tuned a fifth higher at CGDA (the mandolin is tuned the same as a violin at GDAE). A similar principle that a viola is to a violin with its slightly longer scale but tuned differently. Just like mandolins, mandolas are most commonly picked with a plectrum rather than fingerpicked like the guitar or banjo.

Although not as much choice as the other instruments in the mandolin family of instruments, the same setup and playability rules apply at Eagle Music. Important with any instrument but especially with the Mandola with it having 8 strings, relatively short scale and a narrow neck and fingerboard is the playability. Fully setup in our workshop for the best playability and tone, each mandola will be ready to play the day you receive it.
