What is an end pin and do I need one on my ukulele?
The end pin which is not fitted as standard to most ukuleles is a pin or button shaped device that can be fitted to the bottom of your ukulele so you can use a strap. The strap is usually secured around the top of the neck with a lace of some sort and then at the bottom of the ukulele on the end pin. You don't necessarily need one if you don't use a strap but if you want to use a shoulder strap you will need one! They are a conical design and once the strap is fitted to it, its a firm connection meaning you have more control over the neck without having to hold the ukulele neck up whilst playing.
Our end pin fitting service
We offer an end pin fitting service to ukuleles (and other instruments) here at Eagle Music and have done for many years. A small pilot hole must be drilled for the end pin screw to be screwed into. This fills a lot of players with dread. We take the risk out of your hands and can fit them in the workshop for a small workshop fee. They are available in gold or nickel to match you machine heads or tunes. The end pin fitting service includes the pin, felt washer (to protect the finish of your uke) and the screw.
We have added a few pictures to our gallery of specific stages while fitting end pins to a ukulele.
