Description
The Weissenborn Style 1 was offered throughout the 1920’s and in to the 30’s.
Taken from the Tonk brothers Co catalogue from the late 1920’s the Style one is described as: “Back and sides of selected Koa, Top of Selected Koa. Fingerboard of selected Koa inset with round selected pearl positioning dots and fretted with white holly. Bridge of Rock Maple with White Iveroid pins. Sound hole surrounded with three rings of inlay. Finished to the highest standard and hand rubbed to a gloss. Body depth 3 inches”
The Style 1 has been patterned from a fine example circa 1927 Style 1 from a collection of originals. Every detail has been captured to ensure an absolute true recreation. Being built in the same way as the originals has meant the instruments have a lightweight feel yet are still strong.
As is correct for this period, full hot hide glue is used across the construction. Tom Buchanan builds using only the finest old grown and slow dried Koa wood, and then finished using a hand rubbed nitrocellulose lacquer. Every attention to detail has been taken to authentically replicate a immaculate vintage instrument in look, feel and tone.
As the original Style 1’s were, the Buchanan Style 1 is constructed using plainer grained but tonally balanced and beautiful selected Koa. If you would prefer a more figured grain prices are also available for a premium grain “extra Special” option for your build.
